Ashley Cain has opened up about his feelings of guilt as he plans to welcome his second child, two years after tragically losing his daughter Azaylia to cancer.
The former footballer turned TV star, 33, appeared on Good Morning Britain, where he discussed his feelings of guilt around this news, and how it's important to talk openly about loss.
He began by opening up about feeling guilty over the news that he's expecting his second child, as he explained: "I felt slightly guilty, and I felt slightly hurt for Azaylia and I didn't really expect this to be the case.
"But very quickly like I do, I took the responsibility of being a father and I do believe that every child is a blessing."
Ashley further opened up about how he sometimes struggles with seeing other children in his family, as he told hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid: "I think I was meant to be a daddy and I love children.
"I love my family's children but it's hard every time to see them because I always think that's what Azaylia would be doing now."
Ashley then went on to discuss the importance of being open and talking about loss, as he explained: "Any advice I would give somebody that's going through loss or somebody that is supporting somebody who's going through loss, is to always talk about it.
"I think you know, one thing that we miss when we when we lose somebody is being able to share those memories with others.
"And I think if you are open and honest with then you can share those memories and it keeps the memories alive in our hearts and in our spirits."
Announcing the news that he is expecting his second child, Ashley told The Sun on Sunday: "The first thing that I did was go down to Azaylia’s resting place to talk to her about it.
"I believe that was a huge part that has allowed me to feel positive about it. I feel like she was the main person that I needed to speak to and to get this thing off my chest.
"After going to her resting place and speaking to her about it, I just had a feeling in my heart and in my soul that she was happy for me."
He also told the outlet about a terrifying health scare, after the unborn baby's 20-week scan saw doctors identify a potential heart defect.
Ashley shared how he was left terrified that he would lose another child, before the final check-up showed that everything would be okay, although the baby will have to have a scan shortly after birth to double-check.
