Robert Downey Jr., Zoe Saldana, Paul Bettany, Tom Holland and Pom Klementieff talk fake scripts and draw their characters.
The stars of "Avengers: Infinity War" assembled on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Monday night, and to say it was a blast is an understatement.
Paul Bettany (Vision), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Zoe Saldana (Gamora) and Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man) joined Kimmel in his Hollywood studio — across the street from where the world premiere was held the same night — to talk about their shenanigans on and off set, as well as even draw their own characters for charity.
Everyone was in high spirits, and it was a fun night for Kimmel and his audience, and especially for any fans of "The Avengers," as he offered up an exclusive clip of the movie as well. Enjoy all the highlights below.
Dr. Robert Is In the House
One of the things Kimmel wanted to know was what it was like when the casts of Marvel’s two biggest superhero teams, the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, showed up on set together. According to Zoe Saldana, Robert Downey Jr. immediately showed her kindness by sending over a whole slew of get-well remedies as she was sick. They totally didn’t work, but she appreciated the gesture.
This led to a discussion about which actors had been to see Dr. Robert, with Tom Holland detailing this elaborate story of RDJ inviting him into his trailer and actually treating him with medical equipment. We’re pretty sure it was all bull, but nobody seemed keen to contradict the story, and Kimmel couldn’t get a straight answer out of Tom on if he was serious or not.
Maybe Dr. Robert really does set up shop on the set.
Spider-Hoodie Is Unamerican
Kimmel also spoke to the cast about the premiere, which was happening across the street right after they taped their appearance on his show. Zoe Saldana talked about bringing her grandmother, which everyone thought was just adorable and topped their dates for the event.
Then Kimmel asked if any of them had ever showed up to a showing of their movies in costume. Tom Holland admitted he wore a Spider-Man hoodie to his movie (he said he did this a lot) and while people were excited to meet him, they all seemed a bit surprised and put off that he was British.
Was That the Real Script?
Tom Holland is also notorious for not being able to keep secrets, which is why the Russo brothers (the film’s directors) sent around fake scripts to many of the cast members.
It turns out a lot of them read that script without realizing it was fake, so the consensus is that maybe none of them know the whole true story … except Robert Downey, Jr. He’s pretty confident he read the real script.
Draw Your Own Superhero
At another point in the show, Kimmel challenged the assembled Avengers to sketch their own characters for charity. Since the characters they are bringing to life in all these films started their own existences as linework on paper, it was an appropriate tribute. You can check out their work in the video below and see which Avenger could have a backup career waiting for them if crimefighting doesn’t work out.
Exclusive "Avengers: Infinity War" Clip
But it wasn’t just the cast of "The Avengers" that took over "Jimmy Kimmel Live." He even got an exclusive one-minute clip from the highly anticipated film. These 60 seconds do a good job of explaining what Thanos’ whole deal is, and the power of the Infinity Gems should he get his hands on them. See, Thanos likes to show up and wipe out half the population of any given planet.
In the source material this is because he’s in love with the literal incarnation of Death and he’s trying to impress her. Kind of a twisted courtship ritual. They don’t call him the Mad Titan for nothing!
