Irish actress and writer Sharon Horgan teams with an ensemble cast for a thrilling new comedy drama which is set to become another major hit for Apple TV+. In Bad Sisters, Sharon’s Eva Garvey teams up with her sisters to take down their abusive brother-in-law John Paul Williams (Claes Bang), and Express.co.uk recently caught up with the cast at the show’s London premiere.
Sarah admitted her character’s eyepatch was the most difficult part of her new role in Sharon’s black comedy Bad Sisters.
Known for her supporting performances in Normal People and Penny Dreadful, Sarah joins the ensemble cast of the new series which also includes Anne-Marie Duff, Eve Hewson and Eva Birthistle as the Garvey sisters.
The TV star was thrilled to take on the witty and inventive new series, though didn’t anticipate some of the challenges which arose from wearing Bibi’s signature eyewear.
“When I got the phone call I was heavily, heavily pregnant,” she recalled at Bad Sisters’ London premiere.
“I read it and was like, I’ve never played a part like Bibi before. I’m used to playing nice mams.
“It was the first time I got to play someone really far removed from myself, so it was a real challenge.”
Sharpshooting Bibi is the first sister to propose a plan to kill John Paul aka JP, the pretentious and controlling husband of Grace (Anne-Marie).
At the premiere, Sarah was keeping tight-lipped about the cause of Sarah’s injury, which may or may not have been caused by JP at some point before the main events of the series.
“For me, the biggest challenge was wearing an eyepatch,” Sarah revealed. “I’d never worn an eyepatch before.
“My sister, actually, when she was a kid, she had to wear one. And I never realised how difficult that was.
“I got used to it, but my biggest challenge was that, was walking around. I had a really bad knee afterward because I was overcompensating.”
Despite Sarah’s difficulty with the eyepatch, Bibi’s flawless aim could come in handy once the sisters determine the best method of offing their menacing brother-in-law.

Sarah also claimed a number of people thought the series made a strong case for the eyepatch as this year’s must-have fashion accessory.
“People keep saying that to me!” she laughed to Express.co.uk. “Like, is it coming back in?
“I feel like Bibi rocks it, but I don’t know if I could get away with it, but, yeah, Bibi does.
On the inspiration for her outfits, she went on to explain: “Bibi’s very organised, very clean cut. I based it on my boyfriend, basically, he’s got OCD.”
“He’s very particular about how he wears clothes, so I took a lot of inspiration from him. With his permission, he helped me through it.
“I really had to be clean cut, nothing that would annoy her like itchy fabrics or anything like that. Very comfortable but straight up and down.”
Viewers will have to tune in each Friday to find out the story behind Bibi’s missing eye, as well as uncover the truth behind who or what finally killed JP.
Bad Sisters continues Fridays on Apple TV+.
