As the BAFTA Film Awards got rolling on Sunday, all eyes were on “The Banshees of Inisherin.” Martin McDonagh’s pitch black Irish comedy won several of the biggest acting awards to start the day, including Supporting Actress for Kerry Condon and Supporting Actor for Barry Keoghan. The film is proving to be a formidable challenger for “All Quiet on the Western Front,” which set a BAFTA record by picking up 14 nominations. The film already has one win for Adapted Screenplay.
The two films are viewed as frontrunners in many of today’s categories — “The Banshees of Inisherin” received 10 nominations, tying “Everything Everywhere All at Once” for second place. Oscar watchers should make sure they don’t miss any of the action, as the BAFTA Awards are famous for often mirroring the results of the Academy Awards.
