BBC Breakfast fans were left fuming as one reporter suggested the UK could be facing "beer shortages".
On Tuesday (August 9), roving reporter Simon Jones headed to a farm in Kent whose fields had suffered in the recent outbreak of wildfires caused by soaring temperatures across the country.
Chatting to barley farmer Andy Barr Simon explained: "What barley remains here is pretty scorched by the sun, but the rest of it was scorched by a huge fire – pretty much none of it remains.
"In total, they reckon they lost about £35,000 worth of barley when the fire took hold."
With flames that could be seen for miles, Andy's neighbours rallied around to try and help him salvage the harvest and stop the fire by flattening the crops.
But fans were left fuming when Simon rounded off his report by explaining: "Challenging times – temperatures could go as high as 36 degrees heading towards the weekend in this part of the world.
"And the bad news from this field is that the barley here was due to be used to brew beer. So that, also, could be in short supply."
Taking to Twitter, one angry fan penned: "These reporters know exactly what they're doing with their loose comments! There was no need [for] that Simon fella [to] say beer could be of short supply #BBCBreakfast!"
Another quickly followed up: "Right. I'm off to panic buy beer!! #BBCBreakfast," with a hyperventilating GIF.
As someone else posted: "Bit irresponsible for #BBCBreakfast to hint there could be upcoming beer shortages [to be honest]."
