BBC Breakfast viewers distracted by Labrador that steals the show

Jordan the medical detection dog is looking for an owner

BBC Breakfast presenters Jon Kay and Nina Warhurst introduced a report about specially-trained dogs who are able to use their incredible sense of smell to detect when vulnerable owners will soon have a medical episode so they can get to safety before the emergency kicks in. BBC viewers watching took to social media to shower the report – and the dogs – with praise as they applauded the “remarkable” work.

A pre-recorded report followed dance teacher Demi, who suffers from a condition which causes her to collapse without warning.

She’d been told there was nothing that could be done to support her condition until she got medical detection Labrador, Bear.

Bear uses his nose to pick up on changes to Demi’s body before the fainting sets in so she can find somewhere to sit down.

He is even able to indicate when she would be better off lying down ahead of the episode.

Demi appeared emotional as she explained she wouldn’t have been able to follow her dream of teaching children to dance without Bear.

Some of the children explained how Bear’s presence during their dance classes “made them happy” because they knew their teacher was being kept safe.

Later, Nina and Jon were joined in the BBC Breakfast studio by trainer Simone Brainch, who works for the charity, and trainee detection dog, Jordan.

“I must confess, my mind is blown this morning by the science behind it,” Nina remarked.

“So Jordan’s at the point where he’s had advanced training but he now needs an owner that he can get to know and be able to sniff out the warnings.”

The sleepy golden Labrador lay unconcerned at Symone’s feet as the discussion took place.

“He’s now finished his training and now we’re trying to find the right match, and that’s really important that we get the right person,” the charity worker explained.

As Jordan continued to lie down, it was clear he had stolen the show as viewers couldn’t keep their eyes off him.
