BBC Breakfast viewers fume over change in ‘cringe’ presenters on show: ‘Awful!’

BBC Breakfast presenters Chris Mason and Sima Kotecha hosted the breakfast show on Sunday morning, and faced backlash from its viewers. Many took to social media to express their annoyance at another new face on the show and described their presenting skills as “awful”.

Taking to Twitter, Marshall James wrote: “#BBCBreakfast Little boy mason looks out of touch with this woman presenter,” alongside a tired face emoji.

Simo also commented: “Yet another new presenter #BBCBreakfast.”

“I’m starting to think BBC bosses are just leaving BBC Breakfast to just wither away #bbcbreakfast,” Ken Chisholm echoed.

However, not all viewers felt the same, with Alan Gardner writing: “Looking fantastic, always a great listen when you are on breakfast.”

Paul Kenny also added: “Like to see Sima more on news, she’s lovely.”

“Morning @sima_kotecha @ChrisMasonBBC, a top presenting duo,” Barrie Jaques commented alongside two thumbs up emojis.

Whilst presenting the headlines for Sunday morning, the pair engaged in some friendly banter to lighten the show, but many seemed to wince at the encounter.

Sima began by reading off of a newspaper: “Lucy in the sky with diamonds on a quest to Jupiter, so this is a good story, and the story is about the Lucy spacecraft blasting off, loaded with diamonds.

“That picture kind of says it all, that’s really startling, look at that sky! I mean, I’m really into photography, and I must say that is a fantastic picture.”

Chris went on to share his favourite headline of the day: “This is in the Mail on Sunday, ‘All of us tell two fibs a day’, is that a lie?, Do you do more than two?”

Offended by Chris’ question, Sima exclaimed: “Not at all! I’m a journalist, I don’t do that.”

While stating the time, Chris asked Sima if she had told a lie already, to which she responded: “Let me have a think, maybe something nice like ‘is the coffee ok?’ `Yes, the coffee is great!'”

Chris then grabbed at his tie and asked: “What about my tie, is that any good? Nobody commented on my tie.”

Sima tried to get her opinion across, but Chris was too focused on his tie, leaving her to sit and laugh along awkwardly.

Another “cringe” moment which caught the viewers’ attention was when Sima held up a picture of the upcoming series of The Crown, featuring Elizabeth Debicki playing Princess Diana.

Chris informed Sima that he and his wife were still very far behind on the series and hadn’t even gotten to the point where the Queen had her coronation.

Surprised at his revelation, Sima exclaimed: “Oh blimey, you really are behind,” with Chris joking he wouldn’t get to the Princess Diana years until 2027.

Sima teased: “I won’t ask you how old you’ll be then? Well, actually, I’ll be the same age!”

“Sima and I were just reflecting into our 40s,” Chris revealed, with Sima awkwardly playing with her hair and hiding at his admission.

Chris Mason is known to be the political correspondent for BBC Breakfast, occasionally filling in for long-standing presenters such as Charlie Stayt and Jon Kay.

Sima Kotecha is a radio journalist for the BBC and is also a News Correspondent, often presenting on her own, detailing the news throughout the day.

BBC Breakfast airs everyday at 6am on BBC One.
