Ben Shephard hints at Piers Morgan GMB return but new host is what show needs

Ben Shephard has dropped a massive hint that Piers Morgan will be returning to the Good Morning Britain set after his explosive exit.

But it might not be what the show "needs" – with Ben hinting that a change-up of presenters could be just the ticket to bring success to the morning programme.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star at The Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards on Wednesday, Ben explained that former football star Chris Kamara could be the perfect person to take Piers' old seat.

Tipping Point presenter Ben said when asked about Piers: "I don't doubt at some point he will make a reappearance."

He continued: "There's an extraordinary team of people that make the show, and as much as I'd like to think we have the power to choose – it's way over our pay grade!"

But Ben went on: "Chris Kamara is what we need. He's desperate and that's what we need.

"Let's get Kammy in – he would be great at grilling politicians and drinks tea like it's going out of fashion. And he would break out into song all the time when he doesn't know what's going on!" he quipped.

It came as Piers reunited at the TRIC Awards with his former co-presenters Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway, for the first time since his epic storm-off.

Piers' famous strop after an on-air row with weather presenter Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey has now been written into television history.

He quit the show later that night.

In a sweet Instagram post, Piers posed with his arms around Kate's shoulders as they cosied up for a cute snap, captioning the picture: "Reunited! First time we’ve seen each other since I left @gmb #whocareswins".

He also had an arm around his 'TV wife' Susanna, posting a pic to Twitter with the caption "BREAKING: Reunited!"

Susanna could be seen snapping a quick phone selfie with Piers – after a legendarily "frosty" speech upon his GMB exit.

Piers struck out at his former co-host in his MailOnline column earlier this year, writing: "At 6.30am, I turned on GMB to see what my 'TV wife' Susanna would say about our sudden divorce.

"Stony-faced, she read a short, rather frosty statement: Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the things viewers loved about the programme."

He added: "Jeez, even my real ex-wife talks more fondly about me than that (and, in fact, did so overnight in a very supportive message)."
