BGT fave once stripped naked with Paul Gascoigne – and became his brother-in-law

Britain’s Got Talent favourite Tim Goodacre once stripped for a naked footy match with Paul Gascoigne.

And then he married the England legend’s little sister, with Gazza an usher at the wedding.

Singer Tim and 12-year-old son Jack wowed 10 million BGT viewers as they were catapulted into the semi-finals of the ITV show a fortnight ago by Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer act.

But the enraptured audience had no idea about 43-year-old Tim’s first bizarre brush with fame.

He got so close to Gazza’s hard-partying inner circle he was roped into the Comic Relief naked football match video – and the England star even landed him an appearance on pal Chris Evans’ Channel 4 show TFI Friday.

And when Gazza’s mate Jimmy ‘Five Bellies’ Gardner appeared in court charged with threatening a man with a firearm, Tim was in the public gallery.

A source said: “He got swept up in the whirlwind of Gazza’s entourage after falling for his younger sister Lindsay. They moved in together and married very quickly.

“Then they got divorced very quickly too. They were just too young, both in their early twenties. There were no kids.”

Lincolnshire-born Tim met Lindsay 20 years ago at a Haven Holiday Camp. They had been dating a month before he found out about her famous brother.

He said at the time: “I was never a big football fan, but it still came as a shock. When I met Paul I was a bit nervous, but he is a smashing guy who went out of his way to make me feel part of the family.”

The couple wed within months at a country hotel near Hexham, Northumberland, in September 1998.

And they set up home just across the street from Gazza and Lindsay’s dad John in Dunston Hill, Gateshead.

The following year Gazza, then 32, invited his brother-in-law to take part in a Comic Relief naked football match – The Dirty Dozen – alongside DJ Chris Evans, Jimmy Five Bellies and TFI Friday regular Will Macdonald.

A clip shows Gascoigne do a tongue-in-cheek ‘inspection’ of his team including Tim, seen strumming a guitar.

The lads were filmed doing a nude penalty shoot-out before bundling on top of one another in a scrum.

“Tim was always up for a laugh,” said our source.

“It was a bit of fun for charity, but very near the knuckle. The video is hilarious – but there’s little left to the imagination.”

After bonding with Gazza’s pals, Tim was invited to appear on Channel 4 entertainment show TFI Friday.

The source said: “Gazza arranged for Tim to go on the show. He told Chris how talented he was, and as soon as Chris heard him sing he said he had to come on.”

An old online video sees Evans introduce the singer, and Tim perform Simply Red ballad Angels. Afterwards Evans insisted someone should sign him.

But last week when Tim and Jack appeared on his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show the host appeared not to recall their shared history with Gazza – or their naked footie match.

A stunned Evans, 52, said: “You came on TFIF? I had no idea…”

In 1999, Tim and Lindsay supported Jimmy Five Bellies at Newcastle Crown Court. Gazza’s pal got six months for threatening youths with an air pistol after they called him a “fat b*****d”.

Local paper cuttings told how Tim comforted Lindsay when she burst into tears as Jimmy got sent down. Tim was so well in with the family Gazza even gave his parents Angela and Paul a parrot – which the Goodacres promptly called… Gazza.

Then came the marriage split, and Tim went on to become a songwriter and producer.

“After Lindsay and Tim broke up he moved Australia,” the pal explained. “He became quite a big success there.”

Tim went on to find love with wife Karen, 44. They have four children and now live in Norwich.

He told BGT judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams: “I play, I’m a full-time dad really to Jack, Lily and Gabrielle and Kimberley.”

Tim and Jack’s own song The Lucky Ones blew the audience away and has clocked up over 7.7m views online.

When approached for a comment, Tim said: “I was married to Lindsay 20 years ago. We were both very young and life is very different now.

“She’s a lovely lady, we parted amicably and I know we wish nothing but the best for each other.”

Lindsay declined to comment.
