BGT narrator ‘gobsmacked when porn came on as he watched TV with Bruce Forsyth’

Britain's Got Talent voiceover star Peter Dickson used to work on Bruce’s Price is Right announcing all the gifts up for grabs on the ITV show.

But Peter, 63, told how he got a Brucie bonus he hadn’t bargained for when he took up an invite after filming to go and watch Richard and Judy’s debut primetime chat show back at Bruce’s hotel penthouse suite – and a blue movie came on the telly.

In his new book he said that things became increasingly “bizarre” after Sir Bruce skipped to his bathroom to get himself ready.

He said: “I looked up and to my utter horror, there was Bruce Forsyth, national treasure and cultural icon, wearing a knee-length, fluffy white hotel dressing gown and sporting a pair of dark blue socks held up on his surprisingly thin hairless legs, by a pair of bright red suspenders.

“I immediately got up, out of the chair and stumbled away from him towards a small coffee table and reached for the TV remote control. ‘So, Bruce. Err… Shall we watch this Richard and Judy thing?’ I said, as I gingerly walked backwards across the room and slowly sat down.

“’Yes, yes that would be good. Let me just get comfortable. This is going to be fun!’

“And with that, while letting out an audible sigh of pleasure, rubbed his hands together, leapt up onto the bed and crawled on all fours before settling himself amongst a pile of premium feather pillows that he had neatly arranged against the oversized, studded leather headboard.

“The TV flickered into life. ‘A*S VENTURA – CRACK DETECTIVE, with Kaitlyn Ashley’, was the graphic that screamed from the screen. Ass Ventura? The previous occupant of the room clearly had; shall we say exotic tastes.

“Looking up and ignoring the pair of impossibly large breasts that accompanied the graphic, Bruce quickly grabbed the remote and changed channels.

“Just when I was thinking that this couldn’t get any more bizarre, he turned away from me on the bed and gesturing at the large selection of international cheese on the bedside table said: ‘Would you like some cheese, Peter?’”

Peter – famous as the booming voice of The X Factor and BGT – also confessed he used to slip rude phrases into scripts when doing Brucie’s Price Is Right.

In his new book Voiceover Man, he admitted: “Chancing our arm, the following day, we concocted a paragraph describing an item of jewellery that began with the sentence: ‘Yes… every woman loves a pearl necklace!’

“When the time came, Bruce threw to me and said; ‘So, Peter, tell us what Ethel from Barnsley is in with a chance of winning tonight.’

“I could barely get the words out. About half the audience (the depraved half) began to titter and snort. The other half were cooing and clucking over the pearl necklace that was now in crisp, iridescent close up on the big studio monitors.

“Over the open talkback in my headphones, I could hear the gales of laughter from the show’s PA and the vision mixer.

“Bruce, who had no forewarning had to look away momentarily and regain his composure.”
