He may have brought the character of Danny Reagan to life since 2010, but actor Donnie Wahlberg is now also setting his sights on “exciting” new projects. The Blue Bloods actor and singer has teamed up with the masterminds behind Halo and NCIS to executive produce a handful of new shows for US network CBS.

CBS is set to develop two new cop dramas with Wahlberg at the helm as executive producer.

It was announced on December 5 that the New Kids on the Block star has teamed up with Halo writer Steven Kane and NCIS writer Chad Gomez Creasey for the new shows.

Alongside Kane, with additional story written by Creasey, Wahlberg will assist with the new drama Samaritan.

According to Deadline, Samaritan’s synopsis reads: “After discovering a ‘glitch’ in an app that notifies her of crimes and emergencies before they happen, a young hustler teams with a grizzled detective to prevent the tragedies from ever occurring.”

Elsewhere, Wahlberg and Creasey will also lend their talents to the second cop drama Harbor Blue.

The plot for the second cop drama reads: “A team of adrenaline junkies form the NYPD Harbor Unit, tasked with securing and policing the 576 miles of treacherous waterfront surrounding all five boroughs, delivering justice to criminals on and off the water.”

Creasey is no stranger to working on CBS’s biggest dramas having acted as co-executive producer on NCIS as well as the now-axed NCIS New Orleans.

Kane co-created Halo for Paramount+ and also acted as showrunner on the TNT thriller, The Last Ship.

Wahlberg hasn’t addressed whether or not these new work commitments will affect his stint on Blue Bloods.

However, he did take to Instagram to share the news with his 1.7 million followers.

Sharing a link to the article on his Instagram stories, Wahlberg added in a caption: “Exciting news!!!”

And before long, fans quickly shared their own messages of excitement and congratulated the actor on the new feat.

With the projects only just entering development at CBS, release dates and casts are yet to be announced.

However, Wahlberg will continue his stint opposite Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods season 13 this Friday.

The next episode, Poetic Justice, will drop on CBS on Friday, December 9 before the show heads on its winter break.

Blue Bloods fans will then have to wait until January 6 for the Reagans to return.

Blue Bloods season 13 continues Friday on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
