Jade Goody’s son Bobby Brazier has joined the cast of BBC Eastenders and has been spotted filming his debut scenes. Bobby, 19, is the eldest son of the late reality TV star Jade Goody and TV presenter Jeff Brazier.
The dashing young model and actor was revealed to be heading for the Square this week, with his first appearance on the soap set to air this autumn as he joins the cast as Little Mo's son Freddie. Sharing on his Instagram this week, Brazier posted an image of himself in a casual black jacket and matching black trousers, smiling next to the Albert Square sign, with the caption reading: “I’m really excited to be joining the cast of EastEnders – so far it’s been perfect. Everybody has been so beautiful to me and made settling in easier than I could’ve hoped."
He added: "Stepping into the acting world has always been a vision of mine and doing that with EastEnders as a Slater is a blessing, I'm very grateful. Loving every minute of Freddie so far and can’t wait to see what’s in store for him in Walford.”
The character of Freddie Slater was last seen in Walford in May 2006 when he and his mother Little Mo left to start a new life. But now an 18-year-old Freddie is set to arrive on The Square as "a bundle of energy and a truckload of trouble."
It adds: "Freddie Slater has a heart of gold but can’t help getting himself into mischief. While he’s sweet like his mum, he certainly isn’t shy and manages to cause a stir wherever he goes – but is he a true Slater at heart?"
Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer said of his character: “Freddie Slater is a chaotic 18-year-old with a sensitive soul. A modern-day lad who’s in touch with his spiritual side. He’s philosophical, accepting, but full of mischief and makes mistakes.
And speaking about Bobby, he added: "Bobby is an amazing young addition to the EastEnders cast who brings heart and humility to the role of Freddie Slater and I can’t wait for audiences to get to know him.”
The EastEnders newcomer was pictured filming his debut scenes this week as he attends the wedding of Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden). Bobby looked every bit the EastEnders professional in the pictures, appearing in a navy suit worn with a white shirt and pale blue tie.
It appears Freddie is a guest at Kat and Phil's big day and Brazier's character can be seen standing outside the church with Billy Mitchell (played by actor Perry Fenwick) who is also dressed smartly in a white shirt and navy trousers.
In another shot, Freddie Slater can be seen standing with Honey Mitchell, Billy's ex wife, who is dressed in a pink fascinator and floral patterned dress. Viewers will have to wait until the autumn to find out if the wedding goes off without a hitch although rumours are circulating that, in true Eastenders style, it doesn't all go exactly to plan.
Kat and Phil’s big day is not just Freddie's return but also the scene of another reappearing character, Kat's ex-husband Alfie Moon (Shane Ritchie), who turns up and causes chaos as he tries to win her back.
And that's not all. Apparently, Phil Mitchell has his feelings for Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) threaten to rear up on the big day too. Having recently shared a kiss, anything could happen as the wedding bells chime and newcomer Freddie will get a front row seat to all the drama.
After the news that Bobby was headed to the Square, his father Jeff Brazier shared his pride on social media but said Bobby’s character being called Freddie is a bit confusing seeing as Bobby’s brother is called Freddie in real life.
Bobby's mother Jade Goody, died of cervical cancer in 2009 at the age of 27.
