Buckingham Palace moves to protect King Charles from exploitative The Crown

Buckingham Palace Is reportedly "moving to protect" King Charles III's reputation from "exploitative" dramatisation in Netflix's The Crown.

With the new season of The Crown being announced to be released in November, the Palace are said to be trying to protect the monarch's reputation after a senior royal source said the show is "a drama not a documentary", according to MailOnline.

Season five – which will be out on November 9 – will focus in on the then Prince and Princess of Wales and their divorce, as well as Charles' affair with the now-Queen Consort.

Back in August it was reported that this series would be "very painful for Charles" and now one of the King's friends has spoken out.

They said that Netflix would have "no qualms about mangling people's reputations" before branding the show as "exploitative".

Speaking to The Telegraph, the King's friend added: "What people forget is that there are real human beings and real lives at the heart of this."

The new season being released on Netflix will come two months into the King's reign, following the sad death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II who passed on September 8.

Royal aides are said to believe that despite the programme dramatising Charles and Camilla's affair, they will be able to "counter" The Crown's portrayal of themselves now that he is King.

A source has told The Telegraph that the public will have "more of an opportunity to compare the real people with the fiction they see in The Crown".

They added: "In the past they didn't get so much coverage, so in that sense it was harder for people to be able to compare and contrast the drama with the reality."

Imelda Staunton will star as Queen Elizabeth II, along with main cast members Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Jonny Lee Miller, Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki.

Season five marks The Crown's second recasting, following the ensembles led by Claire Foy and Olivia Colman – who both took on the role of the late monarch.

The announcement for the new season came over the weekend – less than a week after Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest.
