Host Jermaine Jenas asked if this book had been "different to write" compared to her previous two novels.
Carol replied: "It is a little bit darker than the previous books, Jermaine you're absolutely right.
"And it was just taking it in a slightly different tangent. It's still a romance, in essence, and it's still got twists and turns and jeopardy and stuff like that in it.
"But I just wanted just to try something a little bit different."
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
