Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) attempts to do what he can to help Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) in Coronation Street, but she isn’t happy when he introduces her to Abi Webster (Sally Carman), who is also a recovering drug addict.
Cassie and Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) returned to Weatherfield this week after both agreeing that Cassie needed to go to rehab to try and get clean.
Evelyn’s hopes of a low-key arrival back on the cobbles failed miserably when Cassie managed to find Tyrone and reveal that she’s his biological mother.
Her troublesome behaviour continues next week when she lies to Tyrone about her plans for the day and ends up meeting Dean, a drug dealer.
We met Dean a few years ago when Abi relapsed in the aftermath of her one-night stand with Imran (Charlie de Melo) being revealed.
Dean is a nasty, scary individual and this is shown when he angrily reminds Cassie that she owes him some money.
Cassie ends up in pain as a result of the confrontation, prompting Michael (Ryan Russell) to take her to A&E.
As they wait, Dean approaches and rows with Michael, leading to a punch in the face.
It seems Cassie is able to keep this entire event a secret from Ty, as he continues to try and build a connection with her later in the week.
He decides to introduce his mum to Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Abi and explains that Abi is a recovering drug addict as well.
Cassie is furious, but will she end up connecting with Abi?
‘I think Cassie and Abi will naturally gravitate towards each other’, Claire Sweeney teased.
‘And I think it might take a bit of a twist and a turn in an unexpected way.
‘It is really great and satisfying to play such a character that has so many sides’, she added.
‘She’s got the feistiness with her mother but she’s also got the vulnerability with her. Then she’s got the love with Tyrone, and then the newness and the wonderment of being a grandma.
‘But then she also loves to party and there is a moment where she’s in the Rovers and she really lets her hair down and causes a bit of trouble.’
