Some actors arrive in a TV show and never seem to leave. Actors like EastEnders' Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale), plus Coronation Street's William Roache (Ken Barlow) and Neighbours' Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson).
Others come and go but definitely make their mark, such as Casualty's Jonathan Kerrigan, who played the BBC medical drama's bleach blond-haired nurse Sam Colloby in the late 1990s.
Having made his screen debut in the video for the Chemical Brothers' 1995 single Life Is Sweet, Jonathan first arrived on our screens in Casualty when Sam turned up at Holby City Hospital's A&E ward in 1996 for an interview.
He got the job and went on to become one of the show's most likeable characters.
Openly gay, Sam was involved in several personal and work dramas connected with his sexuality, including finding out that a female car crash victim was secretly dating his boyfriend.
But life was never dull when Sam was around, as he also helped uncover the fact that a colleague had been raped, fell from a hospital balcony and saved a young girl's life by performing an emergency tracheotomy.
Jonathan played Sam across four seasons of Casualty, but was eventually written out in 1999, with Sam deciding he wanted to try something other than nursing. Other Casualty stars such as the legendary Derek Thompson, who played Charlie Fairhead, have spent much longer in the TV series, with Derek only recently quitting after 37 years.
In real life, Jonathan was off to star in ITV's Heartbeat, set in 1960s Yorkshire, playing Police Constable Steve Traynor – where he also composed the show's theme tune. Always at the centre of the action, his character had an affair with Helen Trent, who he later married. Steve Traynor was understandably bereft when Helen was killed in an explosion.
In 2007 Jonathan decided to quit (and was later replaced by Joe McFadden), going on to feature in TV shows including US crime drama NCIS and BBC drama series In The Club, as well as the movies Diana – alongside Naomi Watts, who played the late Princess of Wales – and The Somnambulists.
Jonathan married actress Shelley Conn – who's featured as Lady Mary Sharma in Netlifx's Bridgerton – in 2011 and they share a son together.
Life's been busy for him since then, with other roles including starring in The Five, a ten-part drama for Sky 1, penned by US crime writer Harlan Coben, and Death In Paradise, alongside his real-life wife. Sporting a ginger-brown goatee and with brown hair he looks totally different to his days as Sam Colloby, in a transformation not dissimilar to that of former Heartbeat co-star Nick Berry.
His most recent TV drama is Irvine Welsh's Crime, where he stars as Mark McKendrick alongside Dougray Scott and Angela Griffin.
