We certainly did not have Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) going on a date with Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) on our 2023 Emmerdale bingo card, but we must admit, it was excellent viewing.

Tonight’s (August 30) dramatic episode saw Liam arrive at the Woolpack ahead of his lunch date with Charity, despite Gail’s (Rachael Gill-Davis) bet that he wouldn’t show.

When Gail announced the reason for his visit to the pub, both Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Leyla Cavanagh (Roxy Shahidi) expressed their surprise, with Liam assuring them that it was Charity’s idea.

They both advised him strongly against it, though by the time he got up to bail out, it was too late.

Though Liam had wondered if she had been messing around by asking him out, Charity proved that she was deadly serious as she appeared in the doorway all glammed up.

With it now clear that the date was definitely going ahead, Cain offered some last minute advice, having dated Charity in the past: ‘Humour her, pay the bill, and then scarper.’

Mid date, Liam pointed out how out of the blue Charity’s date request had come, and wondered if it had something to do with her ex, Mack (Lawrence Robb).

Charity recently made a vow to move on from him completely, after a one night stand left her unsure about what the future would hold for them.

With Liam confused by her sudden interest in him, Charity pointed out that sometimes Cupid’s arrow can strike unexpectedly.

The topic of conversation soon turned to Liam’s murder mystery novels, with Charity admitting that she used to enjoy a steamy romance to get her pulse racing.

When Liam pointed out that a racing pulse could be caused by many things, Charity stopped him mid doctor’s spiel about how fascinating the human body can be, pointing out that he had ‘yet to study’ hers.

As they returned to the Woolpack, Liam seemed completely enamoured.

Charity on the other hand admitted to Gail that while she had had fun, he definitely wasn’t one for her, as she would end up walking all over him.

In his debrief of the date to Cain, Liam admitted that he may be falling for her, while Cain urged him to tread carefully.
