Supporting star Asjha Cooper portrayed Gaffney Chicago Medical Center resident, Dr Vanessa Taylor, for just two seasons of Chicago Med, but now the relative newcomer has confirmed she is already leaving for her next journey. With the NBC drama gaining a reputation for losing key cast members left right and centre, fans have taken to Twitter to share their outcry over the latest news.

Fans of Chicago Med were devastated following the unexpected exit of recurring actress Asjha.

In this week’s episode, Vanessa confirmed she will be leaving the hospital to take a new job in the Philippines.

Having arrived at Gaffney in season six looking for new opportunities, she found so much more after reconnecting with her mother Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett).

However, the NBC drama has now confirmed Vanessa’s story is over after just two years with the series.

After the release of the latest episode, Asjha’s TV mother Marlyne tweeted: “She’s going! A New Journey Begins! Will miss this one!”

Many fans of the Chicago spin-off joined Marlyne to share just how much they’ll be missing Vanessa in the weeks to come.

@MeetUsatMollys exclaimed: “VANESSA IS LEAVING TOO?!?!? MY HEART CAN’T TAKE THIS…”

To which Daniel MacPhee replied: “This universe, as much as I love it, is slowly driving itself into the ground.”

“How many more characters do we need to write off before the viewership plummets???

“We already lost Hawkins, and Halstead, isn’t that enough for one season???”

@jstark804 wrote: “So Vanessa is leaving too. WTF are we doing in the OneChicago universe this season?!

“There’s been so many character exits. And we still have Ethan’s coming.”

“So Vanessa is actually considering leaving Med, are you f*****g kidding me??!!” Zak Blatché fumed.

“And there we go – another one leaving,” Chicago Med fan @kaellay said.

“Vanessa is going out in the world to spread her wings and learn. Good on her but she will be missed. By fans and by Maggie.”

And @merreaa added: “And this where you lost me Vanessa really leaving I’ve had enough.”

Much of the Chicago fanbase has clearly been frustrated by recent seasons following a string of major character exits.

Season seven, which wrapped up earlier this year, already saw Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and short-lived resident Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) exit the show.

Plus, there is still the undoubtedly emotional exit for Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) to come later in the season.

Viewers are wary of even more exits for the NBC franchise after Jay Halstead’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) recent send-off on Chicago PD, so hopefully, there are no more surprise send-offs for the rest of the season.

Chicago Med season 8 continues Wednesdays on NBC in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
