Chris, 59, and his stepdaughter Megan, 25, have been spending more time together on-screen after the latter made her television debut during Springwatch 2020. She has gained a huge fanbase for starring alongside her stepfather and for sharing his passion of nature and the environment. With Strictly Come Dancing set to air on the BBC later this year, there are rumours about who could be taking part and Chris has thrown the zoologist’s name into the ring. Could she appear in the cast for 2021?
The nature presenter explained why he wouldn’t sign up himself, stating: “I think if you do those things, you’ve got to have some aptitude.
“You can’t just be a complete failure. I mean if you asked me to go and do an interview on Chinese television I wouldn’t accept it because I can’t speak Chinese, it wouldn’t work.
“I think the enjoyable aspect of those programmes is seeing people and they have some of the ability and they’re trying to bring it.
“Whether it’s Strictly Come Dancing or any of those sorts of things,” he continued, going on to add: “I cannot dance.
“I haven’t got any natural sense of rhythm. I’m surprised that my heart beats in time,” the television star said.
“I don’t think going on there and making a fool of yourself is going to be fun or entertaining,” Chris declared.
“If there was a programme you could go on and it’d be celebrities painting or something like that, then I might do that because I have some more ability to put paint on paper and it looks like I want it to.
“I can’t invest in that sort of thing. I can’t put my mind to it.”
However, he did have a few people in mind who could take part as he shared: “But Strictly Come Dancing, I’ll leave that to Michaela [Strachan] and Megan [McCubbin] and all of those people.
“They can both dance and they would be much better contestants than me and they and they look much better in glitter.”
Meghan can dance
With a mounting fanbase of younger followers, Strictly bosses could look at Megan as being a contender for this year’s line-up.
The young zoologist has previously spoken about taking part in the show, stating she has a “passion” for dancing.
“I grew up watching Strictly and have an absolute passion for dancing – I used to dance two or three times a week as a child.
“So I’d never say no to Strictly. I’m not sure I’d be any good, but it would be really good fun,” she told HELLO! Magazine.
But viewers will have to wait and see if Chris’ stepdaughter does feature in the 2021 casting for the Saturday night entertainment show.
The line-up is set to be announced this summer, meaning it’s only a matter of months before fans find out which famous faces will be strutting their stuff on the dance floor.
Chris’ co-star Michaela could very well be amongst them too after she spoke about taking part back in 2019.
As a big fan of the programme, the wildlife presenter expressed her interest in becoming a contestant but is “waiting for the call”.
“I’ve put my hand up in the air to do Strictly Come Dancing but sadly no one has taken me up on it so far,” the television star told RadioTimes.com.
Also, former political strategist Dominic Cummings, 49, is amongst the bookmaker’s favourites to sign up this year.
His odds have been cut from 8/1 to 2/1 to take part, with his chances of winning the Glitterball Trophy at 33/1.
Coral spokesperson John Hill said: “Dominic Cummings is currently locked into a public row with his former boss Boris Johnson at the moment but he could be set to tango on the Strictly dance floor later this year, as his odds have been slashed to be a contestant.
“It’s difficult to imagine how comfortable Cummings will be on the dance floor. One thing is for sure though, he is unlikely to get any help from the Prime Minister when it comes to the voting on a Saturday evening.”
Strictly Come Dancing is scheduled to return later this year on BBC One.
