Comedian Dane Baptiste has accused a production company of confusing pictures of himself and the actor Richard Blackwood.
According to Baptiste, he was waiting for approval on press shots of himself to begun promoting an upcoming show.
The un-named production company then sent him the photos to approve – although they weren’t of him, but former EastEnders star Richard Blackwood.
Posting about the incident on Twitter, he explained: ‘[They] just sent me press shots of myself to approve before they start the press run.
‘This is the picture they sent me of me.’
He continued: ‘I swear on my mother’s soul they sent it. Diversity and inclusion indeed, Black Lives Matter.’
Baptiste did not confirm which production this company this was, and neither the title of the show he was due to promote.
Fellow comedians on social media also leapt to Baptiste’s defence over the incident.
Katherine Ryan replied with a ‘mind-blown’ emoji to the news, whilst former Celebrity Juice star Rufus Hound quipped: ‘What’s the problem? That’s a lovely shot of you.’
Doctor Who star Noel Clarke added: ‘Bro, I wanna say this isn’t real, but sadly I know it is.’
This embarrasing gaffe comes after the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement – following protests against the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor in the US – has kickstarted a conversation about diversity in British society.
Grime icon Stormzy recently donated £10 million to the movement, which charity Children In Need have agreed to match.
Metro.co.uk has reached out to Dane Baptiste for comment.
