Coronation Street fans accuse the show of rewriting history with Jim's return plot

We’ve known for a while that Jim McDonald is set to make an explosive return to the cobbles of Coronation Street , and today we learned that he may not be coming back on his own.

It was reported that Jim will return alongside his and ex-wife Liz’s daughter. The thing is, their daughter was born prematurely back in 1992 and supposedly died not long after.

Details of the plot haven’t been shared by the show or ITV yet, but reports state there was a mix-up at the hospital and the child didn’t die after all. ‘Katie’ will allegedly turn up on the street with Jim and a DNA test proving who she is.

As you can imagine, fans aren’t pleased at the apparent news that the show is re-writing an important part of its history:

It’s important to note that ITV and Corrie haven’t confirmed this story as of yet, and even so, things might not be as simple as they appear.

There is always the possibility that Jim is lying about their daughter being alive, as part of some revenge plot or con. He was jailed for armed robbery after trying to rob a building society so Liz could buy the Rovers back in 2011, so maybe he blames Liz for his time in the nick?

Stranger things have happened in Soapland, so we’ll just have to wait and see if these storyline rumours turn out to be true – and how it plays out if they are.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
