Coronation Street viewers were fighting back the tears as Gail Platt was booted out of number eight on Monday night.

Poor Gail has lived in the house for 30 years – and the show's fans weren't happy with her son David's lack of sympathy.

Many of the show's characters are packing their bags after evil developer Ray Crosby won approval to bulldoze their homes.

Gail has lived in the house since 1991, when she bought it with ex-husband Martin Platt.

The gran, played by Helen Worth in the ITV soap, said an emotional goodbye and said she didn't want to have to go.

Her son David, who owned the house, is off to the Dog and Gun estate while his mum is hoping to move in with other son Nick.

Fans took to Twitter on Monday night to mark the end of an era.

One wrote: "This has got me all emotional bye Gail #corrie".

Another said: "Honestly it still bothers me that Gail's kids mainly, David have a lack of love and respect for her. It's mad Uno they will dash their own parents out. Even the way he speaks to her it's weird".

And one Corrie fan was reaching for the tissues as they wrote: "There's a tear in the eye! but david is being so mean to his mum".

Another demanded that the hairdresser showed "more compassion", but others predicted that they will be back soon with the net closing on twisted Ray.
