Coronation Streetviewers were left stunned on Wednesday night’s episode, August 24, as a dead cast member made a surprise cameo on the popular ITV soap.

There has been trouble brewing on the cobbles as Yasmeen Nazir finally realised her partner Stu Carpenter may be innocent after all.

Stu had been convicted of killing a young girl years prior, but he's continued to plead his innocence.

While not many on the street believed him, Yasmeen and her family did and have been attempting to support Stu – with Alya and Zeedan trying to work out how to clear his name.

However, Yasmeen went on to have an unexpected encounter with her abusive husband Geoff Metcalfe who died in 2020 after falling off a roof.

As Yasmeen snoozed on her sofa, Geoff came to her in a dream.

The dream started with Yasmeen seeing Stu in the kitchen cooking dinner, before he proceeded to manically make his way over to her. She then looks again to see he’d transformed into Geoff, who began shouting at her.

"You stupid woman. He's a murderer, he's been sat right under your nose all this time," he said to her.

Before adding: "And the award for most gullible old fool goes to… Yasmeen Metcalfe!"

With Yasmeen’s toxic relationship with Geoff in mind, she didn’t believe the dream-version of her ex, and went on to welcome Stu into her home once again.

In light of last night’s events, Corrie fans took to Twitter to applaud Yasmeen for standing by her man.

“Yasmeen standing up for Stu”, one person penned followed by a string of applause emojis.

“Aw Yasmeen finally believes Stu and will help him,” said another. “Stu and Yasmeen are so beautiful together. I hope they get to be happy again”.

“At least Yasmeen actually wants to help Stu now makes her slightly less annoying,” quipped another.

Echoing similar sentiments to other viewers, someone else said: “Stu and Yasmeen though! Please let them be happy”.

The drama with Stu and Yasmeen comes after Corrie staple Audrey Roberts heartbreakingly revealed earlier this month that she’d attempted to take her own life.

In emotional scenes that aired 15 August, Audrey confided in Roy, Rita, Claudia and Ken, telling them that the overdose was in fact an attempt to take her own life.

The old friends gathered for a belated birthday lunch and are stunned when Audrey tells them she tried to make an attempt on her life three weeks ago, but a neighbour posting a leaflet spotted her and called an ambulance.

As they tried to come to terms with the shock revelation, they asked her what led to the suicide attempt, confessing their guilt at not spotting the signs that their friend was struggling.

Audrey admitted that she kept her feelings hidden and hadn’t even told her family about what happened.

Coronation Street continues on weekdays on ITV.
