SOAP actress Martine Brown appeared on Emmerdale last night as the mysterious character, Joy.

But as she went on a date with Mary, viewers couldn't help but notice something extremely familiar about her face.

Eagle eyed viewers were left doing a double take as Dales regular Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) went on a date with a mysterious lady called Joy in Tuesday night’s episode of the serial drama.

Many fans were quick to notice that newcomer Joy is in fact already a familiar face to soap fans after many recognised her.

But as it turns out, former Coronation Street actress Martine Brown is already quite the regular on the soap scene.

Martine also played Juliette Benson – the mum of Kurt Benson (played by Jeremy Edwards) – in Hollyoaks and appeared on the soap for almost two years until her exit in 1997.

She played the role of Amanda Stephens on the iconic Weatherfield street for 12 episodes between October 2000 and February 2001.

Martine has also starred in many fan favourite programmes on British TV such as Doctors, Casualty and Waterloo Road.

And fans were quick to take to social media to express their shock at seeing the actress pop up in a rival soap.

One posted: “I’ve just been watching tonight’s Emmerdale… and spotted the actress who played Anthony’s meddling daughter, Amanda!”

While another replied: “Omg that’s where I knew the face from. Thought she looked familiar.”

And a third added: “I knew I recognised her from somewhere, I just couldn’t put my finger on it.”

While another eagle eyed viewer recognised her from a different soap role with one adding: “She was in Hollyoaks when it first started too.”

A fifth user wrote: "who played Joy in tonight's episode? Her face looks really familiar but I can't remember her name. x"
