Craig (played by Colson Smith) was reunited with Faye (Ellie Leach) just before Christmas as she was released from prison after attacking Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) the year before on Coronation Street. However, what he doesn’t yet realise is on New Year’s Day, his girlfriend and Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) ran over an old man called Ted (Duggie Brown) who later died at his home. The two women have been trying to keep the death on the ITV soap secret but in upcoming episodes, they could be betrayed by Craig as he gets dangerously close to uncovering the secret.
The drama begins next week when Craig returns from a run around the cobbles with a sprained ankle which he is unable to put weight on.
Wanting to help, Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) lends the young police officer a crutch which has been lying around in the flat he shares with Emma.
Little does the mechanic know, this was the same crutch Ted was using the day he died and the crutch Emma found in the back of the taxi she had taken out to watch over Faye whilst she was driving.
Faye immediately recognises the piece of equipment as it has the pensioner’s initials engraved into it and she is horrified to see her boyfriend using it.
It’s not long before she is helping her partner into the flat and Emma is also horrified to see Ted’s crutch being used by the copper.
With his investigative hat on, Craig begins to analyse the initials on the crutch and wonders who it could’ve belonged to.
It will be clear to viewers Faye and Emma are unnerved by the situation as they believe their secret is going to be exposed at any second.
During Tuesday night’s episode, the young police officer explained to his friend Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) his team were investigating the death of a pensioner.
He added they were treating the death as suspicious as they didn’t think he died at home due to extensive bruising being found on one side of his body.
Faye and Emma bickered over handing themselves in to the police, with the former telling her friend she would be on her own if she admitted to the crime.
Craig has always known right from wrong
However, the power could be taken out of their hands if Craig begins to put the pieces of the jigsaw together and realises his girlfriend has a part to play.
On surveying the initials on the crutch, the young police officer could realise they are the same initials of the man who died.
Questioning Faye about why she has the dead pensioner’s crutch, he could notice she is lying as the young woman becomes nervous.
Unable to hold this information from the police, he could report his partner to the authorities in an act of betrayal against her.
She would be seething to know Craig has handed her in and unable to forgive him for his actions, she could end their relationship.
Although upset, Craig knows he would have done the right thing, no matter if it cost him any chance of a future with Faye.
Having only just been released from prison, the youngster could be given a longer and much more severe sentence for her latest crimes.
Whether she would also betray Emma, in turn, would be another chapter in the story or she may take the whole blame for the accident.
Craig might not have a clue there was another person involved if Faye lied to him about not knowing anything about the pensioner’s death.
But how will the rest of the residents of Weatherfield feel about the young police officer reporting his girlfriend to the police?
Speaking about his character’s role as a police officer, the actor who plays Craig, Colson, has said he know right from wrong.
The soap star explained: “Craig needs to tell his truth without being influenced by anyone.
“Craig’s natural reaction when he feels overwhelmed [in his role] is to do nothing and ignore the situation and hope it all goes away.
“But he needs to trust himself and assess the situation from his own point of view because Craig has always known right from wrong.
“So it wouldn’t take him long to come to the right conclusion,” the actor continued but does this mean his character would really betray Faye?
Taking to Twitter, viewers have also been speculating about how the two women could be caught out, with Steph writing: “Craig when he realises Faye is doing criminal things again #Corrie…No, not again.”
Mr McDonald offered an alternative view as they posted: “Craig will get rid of the evidence what’s the bet to save Faye #Corrie.”
Steve commented: “I’m sure Craig, will soon be analysing the emergency call recording. I doubt he’ll ever recognise Emma’s ‘disguised’ voice.”
Bobby shared: “#Corrie Emma what have you done? You’ve got your voice recorded at an official police call station also making them aware of your connection to Ted. It’s just a matter of time before Craig will be questioning you.”
Doreen remarked: “Craig going to arrest Faye after she confesses in her sleep – to be fair that wouldn’t surprise me the way this storyline is going #Corrie.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
