In recent weeks, the ITV soap has explored hate crime, with Nina (Mollie Gallagher) being the target of a brutal attack due to her gothic appearance. This saw Coronation Street’s Seb (Harry Visinoni) ending up dead following the assault. Nina has been trying to come to terms with what’s happened but has been blamed by Seb’s grieving mother, Abi Franklin (Sally Carman). Devastated, Nina has since decided to change her look and stop dressing in her usual clothes. Will a heartbroken Nina decide to leave Weatherfield for good? Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mollie and Roy Cropper actor David Neilson hinted this could be something Nina considers.

Talking about the way in which Nina attempts to tone down her look following the attack, David said: “He feels terrible that she’s going to become more like him, become beige. And she’s conforming.

“I think the thing is with Roy he avoids the crowds and Nina is not part of the crowd and suddenly she wants to dress to be invisible and to be part of the crowd and he can see that’s damaging to her individuality.”

Nina is set to try to change her look as she comes to terms with the attack, believing if she hadn’t been dressed the way he had Seb would still be alive.

With Nina completely changing her person so she doesn’t stand out, could she go as far as to leave the street?

Abi lashed out at Nina in the street after seeing her following Seb’s death.

She accused his murder of being her fault, leaving Nina heartbroken. This led her to make the decision to change her look.

Writers admitted that the plot for Nina to be involved in a hate crime attack was decided very early on after she arrived on the square.

With Nina feeling lost without Seb and wanting to escape her true self, it seems likely that she could decide to leave.

David also spoke about his admiration for Mollie, adding: “She’s just come out of drama school.

“And has now been in Corrie for around 18 months and it’s a huge show, and then it’s been isolated by Covid.

“You don’t get that naturally, it’s not an easy thing. And then to be given this huge story.

“I was thinking ‘I wonder how this is going to be’ and she is just phenomenal. I mean, she’s really doing it properly.”

He continued: “I said, you know ‘take care of yourself here because it’s really horrible’.

“And she’s doing great and she’s interested in everything that’s going on on that set.”

But although Roy will try his hardest to help get his niece through the difficult period she faces, the soap stars admitted he would be a long road for her.

Following the huge storyline, Mollie might temporarily take a break, meaning Nina will leave for a while.

If Nina realises she can’t stay in Weatherfield due to memories of Seb, Roy will undoubtedly be devastated to see her go.

David also spoke about Roy’s own future, adding: “The time has flown.

“It’s been extraordinary, and I have worked with some really, really good people, many of whom have gone on to other things.

“Why am I still here? I mean, I’m 72 – so, probably a lot of it is luck!”

Could Roy exit with Nina if she does decide to leave?

Talking about how Nina was accepted so quickly with Coronation Street fans, Mollie said: “I love how accepted Nina was.

“I think with Nina, when we first kind of met the character, I think she felt like she wasn’t accepted.

“I think she’d reached a point where, as we’ve seen previously with the speech that Nina did recently about why she is the way she is, where she accepted herself.”

Tragically, Nina is now questioning herself. And with grief for Seb coinciding with fears about the upcoming murder trial which she hopes will see justice served, the youngster might find it all too much.

Could she be saying goodbye to the cobbles for a while?

Coronation Street continues on Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
