Coronation Street viewers were all left saying the same thing as soap icon Bet Lynch got a mention on the ITV soap.

As viewers know, the future of the famous Rovers Return is hanging in the balance – having been a key part of the soap since it began in 1960.

During Monday’s episode (August 7) landlady Jenny Connor threw an event in a bid to impress the Newtons from the brewery, hoping they can put some cash into the pub.

One half of the father and son duo is familiar face Henry Newton who made his return to soap – after five years away.

The two men headed over to the pub to talk business and when walking in, Henry noticed a photo of former landlady Bet on the wall.

“Oh Bet lynch,” Henry fumed, “she’s not still here is she?”

Jenny replied: “Oh no, no, no, she left a long time ago.”

Henry went on: “My dad was obsessed, almost married her. I’ve never forgiven her – he died on the wedding day, heart attack.”

Moving swiftly on, Jenny quipped: “Would you like to see the bucks?”

Show icon Bet’s mention went down a treat with viewers watching the show at home who rushed to X, formerly Twitter, to share their excitement.

“Great mention of Bet Lynch and her almost marrying Cecil Newton great continuity!” said one viewer.

Someone else said: “Bet Lynch mention,” followed by love heart emojis, while a third quipped: “Bet Lynch mentions – back when a time where Corrie was good.”

A fourth added: “Love the Bet Lynch mention,” as a fifth gushed: “Bet Lynch mention what an icon she was.”

Bet, played by Julie Goodyear, 77, was adored by many soap fans as a main star of the show from 1970-1995.

Since quitting in 1995 the leopard print-wearing icon has returned twice – most recently in 2003.

However, earlier this year her husband revealed Julie was diagnosed with dementia.

Husband Scott admitted he was 'heartbroken' with his wife's diagnosis in a statement on Wednesday June 7, where he revealed that Julie's condition will get "progressively" worse.
