Coronation Street has tonight revealed the death of soap stalwart Bill Webster.
In tonight's episode (Monday 3 April), Debbie Webster returned from visiting dad Bill with her brother Kevin.
The pair had rushed to his side after viewers were told Bill had suffered from a heart attack.
However, as Debbie returned from their trip abroad, she spoke to sister-in-law Abi about Bill passing away shortly after.
"Kev said it was peaceful," Abi Franklin said as she tried to comfort Debbie.
Debbie replied: "I suppose it's how I'd like to go."
"Horizontal and full to the brim with morphine. I'm going to go out and help with the arrangements and stuff. I should've stayed out there."
Abi reassured her: "You weren't to know, and at least you got to see him."
However, despite her best efforts, it was all for nought, as Debbie was later found sobbing over pictures of her late dad in Victoria Gardens.
Bill Webster was a legendary Coronation Street character, first appearing on the cobbles in 1984.
He featured regularly on the soap until December 2011, when he suffered a heart attack then too. He promptly moved to Germany with his partner Pam.
The actor who played him, Peter Armitage, passed away in 2018.
Fans were quick to pay tribute to the actor once again after his character's death was confirmed.
"RIP Bill I know the actor Peter Armitage died back in 2018 but still sad news shame they couldn't get everyone back for an on screen funeral though #Corrie."
"Was that the ghost of Bill," asked another.
"Hope Bill Webster's eulogy ends with "I were right about that saddle" #yellowpages #Corrie."
Bill's last appearance in the soap was for granddaughter Sophie's wedding to Siân Powers, an occasion which didn't even go ahead when Sophie called things off midway through the ceremony.
Despite appearing offscreen, Kevin found out Bill had a heart attack in 2013, with Kevin leaving Weatherfield to tend to his father before returning in March 2014.
Although the episode brought sad news of a legendary character, some viewers were more distracted by Debbie's outfit in the episode. The grieving property tycoon brought a pop of colour to the cobbles, wearing a black and white blouse with a neon orange trouser suit.
She topped off the look with a Dalmatian print beret.
"Watching Corrie and Debbie's hat has stolen the show," wrote one fan.
Another commended the show: "OBSESSED with Debbie's fashion choices!"
"Debbie is stunning!! Love her outfit," chimed a third.
