Coronation Street continues to air on ITV and Adam Barlow (played by Sam Robertson) is a solicitor based at Barlow Legal Services. He first made an appearance aged 12, back in 2001, and back then he was played by Iain De Caestecker. Actor De Caestecker has taken up a new role in Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and he looks very different now.

A young Adam Barlow was injured in a car crash that killed his mother Susan (Joanna Foster) when he first arrived in Corrie.

He later left to go to boarding school in Scotland but returned after sitting his exams.

Adam was introduced as part of a storyline involving a custody battle between rivals Ken Barlow (William Roache) and Mike Baldwin (Johnny Briggs).

Adam left when the storyline came to its natural end, however, De Caestecker reprised the role for a short time in 2002 and 2003.

In December 2004, it was announced Adam had been recast with Sam Robertson taking over the role.

De Caestecker is now 34 years old and he is taking on a new role in Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

One of his biggest roles to date was as Agent Leo Fitz, a role he went on to reprise in the web series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot.

The character also appeared in Ultimate Spider-Man vs. the Sinister 6.

The Marvel series concluded in 2020, with the actor going on to star in the series Us and Roadkill.

He has also signed up for another miniseries called The Control Room, playing the character Gabe.

De Caestecker is on Twitter and he retweeted a post from a fan that said: “I love how Corrie keeps getting brought up for Iain 18 years later.

“But as the article shows he’s done very well for himself since.”

The post featured old archive footage of the actor as Adam, following the tragic car accident.

In December, fans wished him a happy 34th birthday and praised him for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series.

The star has his own website and he shared an article from when he was 12 years old, landing his Corrie role.

He was quoted as saying: “It is amazing and a bit unreal to think that millions of people will be watching what I do. I just can’t wait to see myself on screen.

“I was thrilled to get the role of Ken’s grandson Adam. It really is a great part. Meeting the other cast and being on the set has been amazing.”

When asked about whether he would let the fame go to his head, he had a mature approach.

He said: “I can see the dangers of some actors getting big-headed, but I won’t go that way.

“My family won’t let me anyway – they are too busy pulling my leg.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
