Coronation Street fans were left fuming this evening as an iconic Weatherfield character was killed off-screen this evening.
Tyrone Dobbs received a knock at the door from the police today, who informed them that his mum Jackie Dobbs had died.
And viewers could not believe that such a huge character had been given the chop off-screen.
Jackie, played by actress Margi Clark, first turned up in Weatherfield back in 1998 after a stint in jail with Deidre Barlow.
After Deidre’s conviction was quashed, Jackie, who was imprisoned for ABH, followed her to Weatherfield on parole.
Jackie moved to the cobbles with Tyrone, who had been a teenager at the time, and worked at the factory.
During her time on the street, she became involved in a number of screaming matches with Janice Battersby before heading back to Liverpool in 1999 with Darren. Tyrone was left in the care of Jack and Vera Duckworth.
Jackie later returned in 2008 with bright pink hair and caused problems for Tyrone and Molly in the run-up to their wedding.
Tyrone had had an unhappy upbringing as his mother failed to support him during his childhood.
The main source of this was her string of failed relationships and one night stands.
In 2010, Jack fell back into her old bad habits of bringing men back to Tyrone’s home, where she was staying, and he ended up kicking her out.
It is not yet known how Jackie died – and how will Tyrone react after finding out his mum has died?
