Coronation Street viewers were left in tears tonight over Michelle Connor’s baby heartbreak.
Emotional Michelle broke down after discovering that she was not pregnant – but there was a shock twist.
Michelle was rushed to hospital after one of the builders smacked a football into her stomach outside the factory.
She keeled over in pain and was left fearing the worst for her unborn child, bringing up horrific memories of the loss of her and Steve McDonald’s son Ruairi.
Confiding in Carla Connor, nervous Michelle said: “It’s happened again hasn’t it. I think about him every day and I still blame myself. I still feel like I did something wrong.”
However, the doctor revealed that the pregnancy test was negative and she was never actually pregnant.
Overcome with emotion, Michelle burst into tears and collapsed into Carla’s arms.
Trying to reassure her best friend, Carla suggested she could keep trying for a baby with Robert Preston.
But Michelle confessed that she was actually “relieved” that she wasn’t pregnant rather than being upset.
Michelle admitted: “After today I don’t ever want to be pregnant.
"She told Carla that after fearing she was having a miscarriage all her heartache over Ruairi had been brought back to the forefront of her mind.
While this was going on, overjoyed Robert told Billy that he was going to be a dad. Robert struggled to contain his excitement around Michelle and had even started discussing baby names.
He told Michelle it would change their lives, but she worried that he was going to “jinx it”.
“You’re going to be really upset if I’m not pregnant,” she said.
How will Robert take the news that Michelle doesn’t want another baby?
Corrie viewers were heartbroken, but some took to Twitter to point out an error.
One viewer said: "Can’t actually believe Michelle went to A&E"
Another added: "Why was Michelle on a maternity ward? She was only getting checked as the thought she only might be pregnant. Even pregnant woman go on anenatel wards not post natal"
A third asked: "Why did Michelle go to A&E when there’s a Health Centre at the top of the street and has Ally forgotten all he learned as a doctor . Of course there would be no reason for a fuss or major drama then"
*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm
