Corrie icon confirms major return as she joins cast at big showbiz party

Lucy Fallon has hit the red carpet alongside her Coronation Street pals, all but confirming her imminent return to the show as Bethany Platt.

The star is expected to make her on-screen return this Christmas, nearly four years after quitting the role.

The Corrie crew were all glammed up as they attended the Inside Soap Awards 2023, where they picked up an impressive four awards.

Dressed in a red number, the 27-year-old actress was all smiles as she posed for pictures, and clearly felt at home back in the soap world.

Joining her colleagues at the do suggests she is back filming with them, or about to be, which would fit in with the proposed timeline from recent reports.

Lucy described the decision to leave the show back in 2020 as ‘one of the worst decisions she could have made’, although she wasn’t to know that a full lockdown would follow just weeks on.

Speaking on the podcast, BTS With, she explained: ‘The worst question you can get asked when you aren’t working is “what are you doing now? What are you doing next? What TV show are you going to be on now” as if it works like that.

‘Even though lockdown was horrendous, I sort of enjoyed that time in a way, just not having to worry about the fact people were going to ask me that.

‘But it also killed me that I was probably on a bit of a high when I left Corrie, and then lockdown fizzled that out.

‘When things started back up again, I struggled to find my place in auditions. Then everything just started to fall apart a little bit, in terms of work and acting.

‘I’ll be honest, I have struggled, it’s been hard – the main reason is because we were in a global pandemic.’

Bethany was central to many high profile storylines, not least of all an ordeal in which she was groomed and then raped and abused by a sex ring.

And the actress is not a stranger to award wins herself, including a National Television Award and two British Soap Awards.

So she knows how Corrie castmates are feeling, having netted their victories at the most recent ceremony.
