Corrie star reveals it's nice for Peter and Carla to be with a baby

Coronation Street star Alison King has revealed that she’s all for Carla Connor and Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) to have happier times and to be more involved with the family dynamic of the family household.

After an arduous year for the couple, which drove Carla to a devastating breakdown, they have come out of the other side and are now looking to the future. And, in the wake of the death of Sinead, Alison has enjoyed becoming more and more a part of Corrie’s main clan.

She told Inside Soap Yearbook 2020: ‘There’s lots of lovely stuff on screen right now post Sinead’s death in which Carla and Peter are very much a part of the family. I’d love to work more with that baby Bertie too – oh my gosh, he’s gorgeous! I’m not broody but every time I have a scene with him I don’t want to give him back, he’s amazing – he never looks sad or cries, it’s nice to see Carla and Peter with a baby – as it’s a glimpse of what they could have had.

‘Everyone really helps lighten the mood – I’m really going to miss Kym Marsh when she leaves as she is my happy place, she’s brilliant but with this big story, I had Chris Gascoyne and David Neilson and they’re great guys to have around.

‘If I wasn’t sure about something or if something seemed over the top, they were great at helping me rein it back in – they were always truthful and beautiful but at the same time, they’re really, really funny. They’re so supportive.’

But there are others she would love to work with more.

She added: ‘Carla had a really feisty relationship with Leanne years and years ago and Jane Danson and I don’t work much together anymore. I’ve not really worked much with many of the girls for a while – I miss working with Kate Ford and Sally Dynevor. But I’m happy working with Chris – he’s just brilliant.’

The Inside Soap Yearbook 2020 is on sale now.
