Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has revealed she’s expecting her first child.
The actress, who played Bethany Platt on the ITV soap, revealed that she’s been keeping the happy news secret after finding out that she and footballer boyfriend Ryan Ledson were set to become parents.
Lucy, who is 19 weeks pregnant said: ‘We’ve been keeping it a secret. I’m scared but excited.’
Preston North End player Ryan added to OK!: ‘I’ve always wanted to be a young dad so I can be active with them.’
However, at the same time, Lucy has also bravely revealed that she had a miscarriage in March, finding out the devastating news when the couple went for an early seven-week scan.
Describing it as a ‘traumatising, horrendous time,’ Lucy added: ‘I had pregnancy symptoms and I was feeling really unwell and when they were doing all these scans my symptoms were getting worse and worse and there were no signs I had had a miscarriage, so that made it more of a shock.’
The actress then had to have surgery to remove the pregnancy tissue.
She said that Ryan had been incredibly supportive through the heartbreaking time, with the footballer saying that, understandably, it’s been a very difficult time for him too.
He went on to say that he didn’t realise how common the experience was until he spoke to others who have been through the same thing.
The couple added that they were surprised to fall pregnant so soon after the miscarriage and that it was clearly ‘meant to happen’.
While they’re suffering some anxiety around some scans, the pair are, of course, thrilled, and excited to decorate the baby’s nursery in their home.
Lucy and Ryan first confirmed their relationship last year.
Lucy starred as Bethany Platt from 2015 to 2020 on the cobbles. She earned two British Soap Awards and a National Television Award for the role.
In March 2020, the actor opened up about her decision to leave the soap, explaining that she wanted to venture past the famous cobbled streets in her career.
‘Corrie was my first job, I haven’t done anything else, it got to the point where I’ve been there for five years and it was now or never,’ she said during an appearance on This Morning.
‘I didn’t want to get to a point where I was wishing I’d tried more things, it might not work out but at least I tried.’
