Corriestar reveals 'sad scenes' over deepfaked explicit video of Maria

Maria Connor’s (Samia Longchambon) life is turned upside down in Coronation Street next week, as she finds out that a deep-fake video of her has gone viral online.

The local councillor makes the discovery after clashing with son Liam, who eventually reveals all about the video, which has been doing the rounds at his school.

She wastes little time in checking out the video, which sees her face superimposed onto a naked body, and she’s appalled to discover just how realistic it is.

To make matters worse, the deep fake porn video comes shortly after another viral clip, which takes the mickey out of everything she stands for as a councillor.

‘It’s awful,’ said actress Samia Longchambon, discussing the plot development. ‘Maria has been hiding the first video from Liam because she’s embarrassed.

‘And then she gets a call while she’s in the street to say that Liam has been involved in a fight with another boy.

‘So, she has to go and pick him up from school and he tells her it was about a video. She says “Just ignore it, it’s just a stupid song”. And then he says: “What song? That’s not the video I’ve seen”.

‘Firstly, she’s absolutely mortified that it even exists. And secondly, that he’s actually seen this video and thinks that it’s her because it really looks like her – these deep fakes actually look like the person.

‘She’s absolutely mortified thinking that everyone’s going to think that she has been doing pornography.

‘She thinks that everyone who voted her in as councillor will see this video and think that she’s someone that she’s not. So yeah, it’s really, really quite sad, actually!

Samia explained that the situation gets much worse, as Maria begins to get trolled online, and she receives death threats too. Gary Windass (Mikey North) will offer support, but a press conference will see things soon get out of hand.

Coronation Street airs these scenes w/c Monday June 27 on ITV.
