Channel 5 viewers have showered Dan Walker with compliments as he launched his gritty new series, Vanished.

The four-part series – which launched on Thursday (March 30) – takes a deep dive inside several people who have gone missing across the UK.

His new programme will feature appeals for information and will also provide updates on recent cases and unsolved cases as well as interview people have returned.

As the former BBC Breakfast host explored the cases of three missing people with family members, police officers and charity workers, fans flooded to Twitter to share their support online.

But one thing fans couldn’t help but notice was how similar the true crime series was to Crimewatch.

The beloved BBC One series attempted to solve some of Britain’s biggest unsolved cases for more than 33 years before it was cancelled in 2017.

Taking to Twitter, viewers showered the dad-of-three online, with one user writing: “Bit macabre but used to love Crimewatch, this looks nearly as good! #Vanished @channel5_tv.”

Another agreed: “This new channel 5 show, #Vanished with Dan Walker is giving me major Crimewatch vibes.”

A third echoed: “This show should have been running since Crimewatch but it’s good it’s being done now! #vanished.”

It comes after the special episode of Vanished that revolved the tragic case of Nicola Bulley hit the airwaves on Channel 5.

Dan reflected: "The tragic case of Nicola Bulley highlighted the desperate situation that the families of missing persons find themselves in.

"It also showed us the importance of responsible journalism and brought into focus the public can play during a live investigation.

"We want Vanished to assist the police and also support the families and loved ones of some of the thousands of people who go missing every year."
