Death in Paradise fans were feeling a mixture of emotions this evening; sad that JP Hooper (played by Tobi Bakare) had accepted Commissioner Selwyn Patterson’s (Don Warrington) promotion and would, therefore, be leaving Saint Marie police station, warm and fuzzy after the Sergeant took the blame for assaulting a victim so Police Officer Trainee Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) could keep his position, and infuriated by the final scene which saw DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) race to DS Florence Cassell’s (Josephine Jobert) house with the plan to tell her how he really felt. But just as he was about to confess his true feelings for his colleague, the episode cut, meaning fans will have to wait an entire year to find out what happens next.

Having watched how happy JP was with his wife, Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine) told Neville: “You only have yourself to blame with Florence.”

“I tried Catherine!” The Detective Inspector replied. “Besides, it’s only one date, it’s not like she’s marrying the guy.”

“More excuses,” the Mayor commented and when Neville asked for suggestions about what to do, she added: “If you like her, go and tell her. When will you ever find the courage to do it? Tonight there is only one man who will get to spend the evening sitting across with Florence enjoying her company, and it is the man who is brave enough to ask her out.

“For once, try being bold,” and with that comment, Neville darted off to Florence’s house.
