Fans of Doctor Who should prepare themselves for an emotional episode that will see the Thirteenth Doctor embark on her final adventure.

The BBC has confirmed that the franchise will air a feature-length centenary special entitled The Power of the Doctor.

With the third and final special episode of 2022 airing this month, viewers can tune in to watch Jodie Whittaker's final adventure on Sunday, October 23.

In the episode, Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor must fight for her very existence, against her deadliest enemies: the Daleks, the Cybermen and her arch-nemesis, the Master.

The explosive farewell will see a slew of much-loved favourite characters return, including Tegan (Janet Fielding), Ace (Sophie Aldred), Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) and Vinder (Jacob Anderson).

As well as all of the above, The Master portrayed by Sacha Dhawan will return, while The Doctor and Yaz (Mandip Gill) face a huge triple threat.

The Twitter account for the beloved TV series released a sneak preview clip on Friday, teasing that the main trailer would come out today (October 8).

Fans of the programme were quick to flock to the comments section, with many freaking out about the news.

"Oh my god oh my god," penned one excited fan, while another said: "'I don't want 13 to go' is my whole personality lately, don't know what I can do about it. Whittaker, you are (won't use 'were') fantastic."

A third person then said: "I do like the 13th doctor, and I will miss her. The poster on my wall will stay until the end of time. Excited for the 14th doctor but I hope we get to see the 13th doctor in a future episode at some point."

While a fourth added: "The 13th Doctor will always be my favourite. I'm missing her already. I didn't want her time to end."

Jodie, 40, assumed the role of The Doctor from Peter Capaldi in the 2017 Christmas special episode Twice Upon a Time – and has been at the helm ever since.

The Fourteenth Doctor has been confirmed as Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa.

And as well as this new series, Doctor Who is also marking its own 60th anniversary in 2023 with a series of specials.

Russell T Davies will be returning to the series, along with some fan-favourite actors and actresses.

The Tenth Doctor played by David Tennant and his sidekick Donna played by Catherine Tate will return for the 60th anniversary.

The trailer for Jodie's final episode is out now, with the episode airing later this month on October 23.
