After Life season three is on Netflix now and it was an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. Ricky Gervais returned as journalist Tony Johnson as he finally came to terms with his wife’s death. Fans have also fallen in love with his dog Brandy, and they are wondering who owns the furry friend.
Does the dog in After Life belong to Ricky Gervais?
Brandy has played a huge role in After Life since the very first season as he saved Tony’s life.
Tony was struggling to cope with the untimely death of his wife and their pet dog was a constant reminder.
Hitting rock bottom, he wondered whether he could carry on living, especially with Brandy around.
However, he knew in order to keep the family pet alive, he would need to carry on living too.
Brandy has since been a much-needed friend and shoulder to cry on for Tony.
Brandy is not actually Ricky Gervais’ dog in real life.
The dog playing Brandy is a female German Shepherd whose real name is Anti.
Gervais previously spoke on the Graham Norton Show about how he would miss his furry co-star between seasons.
Fans may be interested to hear the beautiful German Shepherd has starred in other shows before.
She has featured in the short film Oscar’s Bell, as well as In Fabric.
Viewers saw behind the scenes photos of Gervais reuniting with his co-star ahead of filming for season three.
The dog looked excited as she ran over to the comedian, who was seen petting her enthusiastically.
The beloved pet appeared on The One Show alongside Gervais to discuss the latest season.
However, she ran off the set when the comedian was discussing dying before his wife Jane.
He said: “That’s where the idea came from, the first thought I had was ‘What if you lost everything?’

“You could do what you want without consequences, and I thought, well ‘What’s losing everything?’ and to me, it’s your soul mate, your life partner.
“So, I always, I’d be terrible, I want to go first, which is selfish, but I do, I don’t want to….”
Anti proceeded to cry out before licking Ricky’s face and jumping off the green sofa.
Gervais joked: “Oh Anti! I know, I’ve got six more years, Anti, don’t worry.”
Fans were worried Brandy had died following the emotional ending to the third season.
Tony is seen walking into the distance with his wife and dog, and all three of them fade away to nothing.
Some viewers believed this meant Brandy died, but Gervais confirmed the dog was still alive.
They had taken to social media to share their thoughts on the loveable dog.
Lorraine Burgess said: “That dog and that connection between her and @rickygervais in #AfterLife3 Love it.”
Vivien Garvey added: “Watched all episodes of #AfterLife3 last night.
“As an owner of these three rescue dogs, my heartfelt thank you @rickygervais for championing rescues. And for making me laugh and cry. Brilliant series.”
