DUSTIN Diamond believes his stage IV lung cancer was caused by the "asbestos and mold" in various hotels he was staying at as he insisted he is not a smoker.

The Saved By The Bell star was rushed to the hospital in early January to treat a "huge lump" on his neck.

The 44-year-old actor's representatives told TMZ that Dustin is currently wondering if it was his various visits to "cheap hotels for work" that could have possibly caused his illness.

The outlet reported: "Dustin believes some of these spots might have had mold or asbestos … which he could have breathed in, causing his cancer."

Dustin found himself traveling quite a bit as a stand-up comedian, which led to the hotel stays.

However, stage four small-cell carcinoma is usually caused by smoking, and Dustin's rep explained that the star is not a smoker.

Meanwhile Dustin, who has completed his "first round of chemotherapy," is having a rough time at the hospital.

A source recently disclosed to Us Weekly that the diagnosis for Dustin's cancer was looking grim.

The insider told the publication: “It’s not good, it’s not good at all. He’s going to be in the hospital for a while.

"He’s getting through his treatments now. It’s tough, it’s very hard. He’s going through a lot of pain, but he still keeps his spirits up.

"Right now, he’s just suffering. He has his ups and downs where he’s great one minute, but then he can be in a lot of pain — tears. It’s such an emotional time.”

Dustin's close friend Dan Blockpreviously told The Sun exclusively that the comedian put off going to the doctor in case people took photos and posted them online.

Dan explained: "I wanted to say something because there's people out there saying it's a hoax – it's not a hoax, Dustin is sick.

"It started off as a tumor on his neck – a huge lump on his throat – and it was very visible. He was afraid of someone taking pictures of it and posting it online."

He added: "He was taking antibiotics but he didn't want to go to the doctor and then about a week later he Facetimed me and said it was getting really bad."

Dustin is best known for playing Samuel "Screech" Powers on the massively popular show Saved By the Bell – a role he had for four seasons.

While his former costars – Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Tiffani Thiessen, Elizabeth Berkley, and Lark Voorhies – were recasted for the reboot of the show on Peacock, Dustin was not called back.

The stars have distanced themselves from Dustin, especially since he has been quite controversial in the years since.

Dustin's Saved By The Bell post-world has involved getting arrested in 2014, releasing a sex tape in 2016, as well as a tell-all book that ruffled his former co-stars' feathers.
