Fans of EastEnders were in tears on Wednesday (February 1) evening after pregnant Whitney Dean was given tragic news about her unborn baby.
Whitney, played by 31-year old Shona McGarty, first revealed her concerns to Kat Slater at the beginning of the episode explaining that she had been "spotting".
Kat later accompanied market stall trader Whitney to a scan, which after a long wait, brought about further worries from the nurse who decided to run her findings past a doctor.

The doctor soon emerged, telling poor Whitney: "I’ve reviewed your scans and consulted with some of my colleagues and it appears that some of your baby’s organs are developing on the outside of its body.
"The condition is known as omphalocele, and it can be treated with surgery after the baby is born.
“I know that’s a worry but in these cases it’s helpful for us to offer you a test to check if the omphalocele has been caused by a genetic syndrome or condition."
With Whitney's heart breaking, the doc added: "I’m afraid that would be more serious. I’m sorry, in some cases it could mean that your baby might not survive."
Since arriving in Walford in 2008, Whitney has certainly been through the mill.
Her first major storyline saw her suffer sexual abuse at the hands of adopted mother Bianca Jackson's partner Tony King. Later she was the subject of sexual exploitation by Rob Grayson before her marriage to Lee Carter broke down.
If that wasn't enough, she then miscarried a baby and found out her fiancé Callum Highway was having an affair with Ben Mitchell.
Her latest devastating news, meanwhile, was met by a multitude of sadness and frustration on Twitter, with one user commenting: "Whitney hearing that her baby might not survive is heartbreaking. I’m glad that she had Kat with her."
Another wrote: "Honestly wish the show would let Whitney have a happy storyline for once. Had me crying knowing she’s in for heartache once again. You can just see the pain and heartbreak in her eyes. Let her be happy for once, honestly #eastenders."
A third added: "Sat here crying again poor Whitney wish @bbceastenders would give her a break poor love she deserves some happiness, well done to @ShonaBM for playing Whitney so well #EastEnders."
And a fourth said: "Whitney deserves better she’s waited this long to become a mother and it’s likely her baby will die they always seem to kill one baby if someone else is pregnant. Yes great awareness but I’d of preferred someone else."
The soap's bosses are working alongside SOFT UK and Antenatal Results and Choices on the storyline.
