EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick proudly introduced his baby niece to his fans on Wednesday, sending his co-stars wild for the adorable post.
The 28-year-old star, who plays grieving Jay Brown in the BBC soap, posted a gorgeous black-and-white photo to his socials, promising the newest member of the family lots of "laughs".
"She don’t know how lucky she is I’m her uncle!," he joked. "Nahh I don’t know how lucky I am she’s my Niece, welcome to the family RSC! We’re gonna have some laughs kid I tell ya!".
Jamie's co-stars were quick to post their congratulations on the cute pic. Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Slater, wrote, "Uncle j", while Honey Mitchell actress Emma Barton simply posted three love heart emojis.
Castmate Tony Clay, who plays Albert Square's popular Callum Highway, commented, "Uncle Jamie! Congrats to you & the family brother! x".
James Farrer, who portrays Zack Hudson, added: "IT’S TIME. Wonderful times to come for you all my bruva." Amy Mitchell star Ellie Dadd also wrote, "Awwww congrats uncle Jamie"
Jamie's happy post was a far cry from character Jay's mood at the moment, as he grieves for his late wife Lola Pearce, played by Danielle Harold, who tragically died after battling a brain tumour.
The car salesman has been relatively quiet in Albert Square since her death in late May, but things changed this week when viewers saw him meet Nadine (played by Jazzy Phoenix), an escort who bore a striking resemblance to his late wife.
Jamie joined the cast in 2006 and has been a favourite with viewers, who heaped praise on him during the Lola death storyline.
Shortly after appearing on screen, Jamie told OK! he'd discovered he was actually related to another of Albert Square's residents – Charlie Winter, who played Hunter Owen.
The pair realised that their uncles shared the same name and it turned out it was because they were actually the same person.
He told us, "My great uncle is called Charlie Winter, so when they said there was a kid coming in called Charlie Winter, I was like, 'Seriously? Turns out we are second cousins”.
His biggest storyline to date was his role as a devoted husband to Lola as she lost her battle with her tumour.
The emotional storyline earned co-star actress Danielle, 31, a stream of top awards, including a coveted National Television Award for Serial Drama Performance and best Soap Actor at the TRIC Awards.
“It’s such a weird feeling knowing I’m never going to play Lola again,” she told in an exclusive chat after leaving the soap. “She was a character that I built over such a long time, so it was so sad watching her slowly deteriorate in that way.
“It sounds silly, but when you play a character like that for so long, you love that character, so it was almost like I was grieving for the character at the same time. It’s been really sad, it’s definitely a process.”
