EastEnders will kick off Jay Brown’s new romance storyline next week as he asks Ruby Allen out on a date.
Jamie Borthwick has previously hinted that Ruby (Louisa Lytton) could be Jay’s next love interest when he takes a shine to her in upcoming scenes.
As Jay plucks up the courage to ask Ruby out, his timing couldn’t be much worse as she is too distracted by her rape ordeal to deal with his attention.
After learning that Ross and Matt have both been charged over the assault, Ruby is mortified when she spots an article about it in the newspaper.
Oblivious to Ruby’s turmoil at that point, Jay pays her a visit – keen to step their budding friendship up a gear.
Unbeknownst to Jay, Ruby is in the middle of reading some nasty comments about her online when the doorbell rings – meaning she is definitely not in the right frame of mind.
Relieved to see Jay, Ruby momentarily enjoys his company –prompting him to pluck up the courage to ask her out on a date. But what will Ruby say?
Speaking about Ruby’s spark with Jay, Louisa said: “It starts off as a nice friendship and I guess he’s a safe place for her. He’s very soft and tentative and is a lovely guy.
“Initially, she doesn’t want to go near anybody. Men are the last things that she wants. But at the same time, she kind of needs the comfort of a man in a different way, because she doesn’t have a father figure or a dad. She just likes that he’s around, rather than likes the attention.”
EastEnders airs these scenes on Tuesday, November 27 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
