Fans of primetime soap EastEnders will remember loveable mechanic Ricky Butcher.
The character has been absent from Albert Square for quite some time but after ten long years, he’s making a dramatic comeback.
The Sun reports that 50-year-old actor Sid Owen, who plays Ricky, will begin filming on set next month with Charlie Brooks, Ricky’s on-screen sister Janine. He’ll also reunite with Kim Medcalf, who plays Ricky’s ex-wife Sam Mitchell.
A source revealed: “Bosses have an exciting storyline planned for his return, involving lots of key players.
“Ricky is an iconic character from Albert Square’s early days, and has been hugely popular over the decades. He has lots of unfinished business.
“The sky’s the limit for script writers. An autumn of bumper storylines is on the cards.”
Like many popular soap stars Sid joined the EastEnders cast as a youngster, back in 1988.
Ricky is the son of Frank Butcher and stepson of Pat, both of whom have passed away in the fictional programme.
Mechanic Ricky tied the knot three times, including twice to fiery Bianca Jackson who became famous for shouting “Rickaaay” across Albert Square.
The last time Ricky was seen on screen, he was leaving Walford for Germany in 2012.
As Sid prepares to step back on set, it’ll be the end of an era for another EastEnders legend.
Danny Dyer (who plays pub landlord Mick Carter), will leave our screens in an explosive storyline later in the year.
Meanwhile, soap alumni Dean Gaffney (who played Robbie Jackson) is reportedly giving the jungle another spin. The 44 year old is said to have signed up for an All Star series of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
The show is due to be filmed in South Africa, with the news coming 16 years after Dean entered the Australian jungle in 2006 alongside hosts Ant and Dec.
In yet more happy news, 60 year old Michelle Collins (another former EastEnders star) just married her fiance Mike Davidson in London. In attendance was long-time pal and on-screen husband Adam Woodyatt, who’s famous for his role as Ian Beale.
Adam watched on as Michelle – who wore a classy white jumpsuit and delicate flower crown – appeared from the venue and guests showered her with confetti.
