Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) has spent most of her life without mum Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit), after she supposedly walked out on her when she was 3. However, EastEnders revealed tonight the heartbreaking truth behind her disappearance.
Emma came waltzing back into Lola’s life in January, after Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) managed to track her down.
Since then, Emma has been trying to find out more about her long-lost daughter, by pretending to be someone else and booking appointments with her at the salon.
When Emma discovered that Lola doesn’t have long left to live, after being diagnosed with a brain tumor last year, she decided to secretly post money through her door, leaving Lola terrified that she had a stalker.
However, the truth came out in last night’s (January 6) episode, when Billy and Jay (Jamie Borthwick) found the pair arguing, and Lola realised that the woman she believed to be Nicole was actually her mum.
Tonight, Emma finally opened up about the real reason she left, and it was heartbreaking.
She told Lola that she hadn’t wanted to leave, but that one night Lola’s father had thrown a kettle of boiling water over her, leaving her in hospital for months with burns.
She confessed that when she had been released from hospital, she went back to find Lola, only to realise that they had gone.
Lola didn’t believe her at first, insisting that her dad had never hurt anyone, and that everybody liked him.
However, when Emma showed her the scars she still had, Lola had no choice but to believe her.
As Emma began to drive off, Lola stopped her in her tracks, insisting that she wanted to get to know her mum again.
Will Emma be able to make up for lost time before it’s too late?
