EastEnders star admits it 'gets more difficult' as husband leaves for months

Former EastEnders star Melissa Suffield has shared an emotional Instagram post ahead of her husband leaving for an extended period for work.

Robert, who works on a cruise ship, will be gone for four months, leaving the Lucy Beale actress and son River behind.

In the honest post, Melissa admitted that ‘it doesn’t get any easier’ to see him go.

‘And just like that, three becomes two again.’ She shared, alongside a photo of the family watching the sun set.

‘After a lovely 3 months together, Robert has returned to the ship for another 4 months- so it’s back to mum and River 24/7. We’ve had a wonderful break, and although we’re all used to this now, it doesn’t get any easier.

‘In fact, it probably gets more difficult- Riv gets more aware, we both start to realise how much he can change in a 4 month window.

‘He’s gaining skills DAILY that feel so grown up, it feels like Robert will return to a completely different kid at this point. And although it’s still the right choice for our family, it’s doesn’t make the decision an easy one.’

Melissa gave birth to River in 2020, and has documented her experiences of motherhood on her Instagram account.

She focuses on spreading positivity, so it is no surprise that she is able to find the positives in this difficult situation.

‘But it’s all entirely worth it for moments like these,’ the post continued. ‘Time spent together, or seeing River’s face when we both appear as he wakes, and being able to simply sit and do nothing, with company. Tiny small joys that so many take for granted. We never do.’

Melissa, who played Lucy Beale in EastEnders between 2004 and 2010, received lots of love in the comments from followers who had experienced similar circumstances, on top of well wishes for the next four months.

‘Beautiful photo,’ one commenter wrote. ‘I hope these next 4 months fly by til you’re all back together.’

Another said: ‘He’ll be home again before you know it hun! Lots of love to you & little one’, followed by a love heart emoji.

A third could relate to Melissa’s post, saying: ‘Sending lots of love, my husband is in the Navy and it’s hard. I see you’.
