In fact, viewers were so outspoken about the apparent blunder that the actress who plays Vanessa – Michelle Hardwick – took to Twitter to clear things up.
In the episode, Vanessa accompanied girlfriend Charity Dingle to her dad's house before leaving the two alone to talk.
The upsetting scenes saw Charity eventually storm out and drive home – alone.
Baffled fans took to social media to ask where Vanessa had gone, with one writing: "Is it me or did Vanessa just disappear?
"Charity just drives off alone.
"Did Vanessa take a cab home since they drove to daddy O’s together? Just weird."
Another added: "Continuity on #Emmerdale was a bit pants tonight. Where did Vanessa go? Should she not have been going home in the car with #Charity?"
Addressing the confusion on her own micro-blogging page, Michelle poked fun at Vanessa's vanishing act, tweeting: "There is a very good bus service. Do not worry."
Despite leaving her to get the bus, it was recently revealed that Charity is going to finally tell Vanessa that she loves her in tonight's episode.
Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, explained: "Charity always said that she wasn't the type of person to say 'I love you', so it's great and very interesting for the viewers to see that side where she does finally give into love and say it out loud."
The actress added to Digital Spy: "Charity is the first one to say it as well, which bowls Vanessa over. I think the audience will be in shock!"
