Emmerdale fans were left confused on Thursday's episode over Jacob Gallagher's new "posh" friend Phoebe.

During the latest episode, Jacob bumped into his university medical pal in the village where she accidentally fell over and hurt her hand.

Thankfully, Jacob's stepfather, Dr Liam Cavanagh, was passing as he was able to tend to Phoebe's hand.

However, things soon took an awkward turn when Phoebe mistook Liam for Jacob's dad, saying she had heard all about him, and it was revealed that Jacob had failed to mention that his actual father is in fact David Metcalfe.

Soap watchers were left confused over Phoebe's sudden appearance as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One person said: "Who's Phoebe? Posh Phoebe that is #Emmerdale."

A different account put: "Phoebe? Another new addition? #Emmerdale."

While another viewer added: "#Emmerdale Who the heck is Phoebe? Must've missed something by looking at twitter too much."
