Emmerdale viewers have shared their theories over Mackenzie Boyd's (played by Lawrence Robb) fate after he finally broke up with Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) and told her the truth about his feelings for Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) during the latest instalment.
Many are now convinced that the scorned girlfriend will murder her ex in the Christmas episodes.
The character, who is also Moira Dingle's brother and baby Reuben's dad, bit the bullet and told Chloe he couldn't be with her any longer during a devastating moment for the now-former couple.
Chloe had been determined to plan a wonderful surprise for her beau, and decked out the whole house with Christmas decorations for the occasion.
Presenting him with a cheese and pickle sandwich to the sounds of I Wish it Could Be Christmas Everyday, Chloe was truly shocked when Mack immediately crushed her dreams of their first festive season together and dumped her.
Keeping his explanations to a minimum, Mack simply said he was "sorry" over and over, and nodded in defeat when Chloe begged him to say it wasn't because of Charity.
While Mack and Charity are now excited to build their future together and are free of Chloe's shackles once and for all, fans are now guessing the break-up is the catalyst for Mack to be killed in this year's Christmas episodes.
The clues came thick and fast that the pair calling it quits could lead to plenty more drama, particularly as Chloe's sister Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) fumed over the prospect of Mack getting away with saving Charity in the car crash.
"You should have told him that. You should have made him say you're not a fool that you knew everything, you knew about the cheating, you knew about the crash," Amy shot back.
"Where would that have got me? Amy he couldn't wait to get out of there he's probably with Charity right now planning the Christmas we were meant to have together," Chloe answered sadly.
"What are you gonna do about it?" Amy demanded, continuing to complain that Chloe should have told her ex that she secretly knew the truth.
"I don't know. I honestly don't know," Chloe replied ominously, before proceeding to sob her heart out.
Meanwhile, Mack was also seemingly hinting at another twist in the tale as he told Charity that Chloe was "too mature" to want to get revenge on him.
Trying to get her lover to wake up and realise this wasn't the end of their problems, Charity said: "Just because she's not wailing and scratching ribbons out of your face, do you think she's gonna leave it on a handshake?"
"Do you seriously think she's just gonna forgive and forget?" the pub landlord added.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, many fans were unanimous in their predictions that the break-up was the beginning of the end for Mack.
"If it isn't Mackenzie being killed off before New Year (since he dropped himself in it last Thursday when he said to Charity 2024 would be their year) I'm out!" one person posted.
"As much as I am looking forward to Mack’s death, I want Charity to get to come to the realisation that she deserves better," another fan wrote.
A third viewer shared: "I don’t want him to die quite yet. Let Vanessa return and Charity slowly start to come back to herself…then Mack can threaten V and C can tell him he made a huge mistake saving her life."
"Hope Chloe & her sister kick Macs ass #Emmerdale," a fourth person said, followed by: "Will Chloe do Mack in? #emmerdale"
