It appears Al Chapman’s (Michael Wildman) days are numbered in Emmerdale.
Just recently, Michael was confirmed to be taking part in a winter panto production of Aladdin.
Traditionally, it is not known for ITV soap stars to perform in panto while filming with the show, leaving us wondering how Al will leave, if Michael is of course preparing for an exit?
Currently, Al is in the middle of an affair storyline with Chas (Lucy Pargeter).
Sneaking around and seeing each other just for sex, Al and Chas are doing a good job at keeping things hush hush for now but this is a soap! We know that won’t last forever.
One person who will unleash his anger once the truth is exposed is Al’s enemy and Chas’ brother – Cain (Jeff Hordley).
Addressing the possibility of a showdown between Cain and Al, Jeff Hordley recently told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think Al and Cain have been circling each other for quite a while, and probably been circling each other because of Covid!
‘We’ve had a lot of “I’m going to get you, but I can’t get you because of Covid!” But I think this is going to lead to something if he finds out. I think there could be fireworks but not the kind you get in November…’
With the panto role and Jeff’s comments in mind, Michael Wildman has addressed the possibility of a departure, knowing a villain won’t hang around forever:
‘He comes with a lifespan. I’m under no misconceptions as to what can happen in the future’, he told Inside Soap Magazine.
‘I’ve always said if I’m doing a soap, I want to play a villain, as they’re the best characters. That’s what drew me to joining Emmerdale.’
He added: ‘The first time I met Jeff I said, “When are we going to get into it?” and obviously in the last six months, we really have! I don’t see how Al can avoid Cain in this scenario.
‘It’s going to kick off, and something may happen where I get to do my own stunts…’
Reflecting on his current storyline, Michael said: ‘After the affair with Debbie, the stuff with Cain and Al destroying her pub, Chas still continues to tolerate him. They’ve always had a connection, so I’m not surprised they’ve had an affair.
‘Paddy’s the perfect man but he’s very safe – and I think Al represents the fire and the danger that Chas feels she’s missing.’
